Our History
Serving Fairfax Since 1928
Due to population growth, the Town of Fairfax was in need of its own fire station; in April 1928, the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department was formed. Fairfax County designated this station as “3”. In 1949, Fairfax County hired the first paid firefighters, who began working with the volunteers. On May 1, 1978, the City of Fairfax Fire and Rescue Department (now known as City of Fairfax Fire Department) was formed. The second fire station (Fire Station 33) was opened in January, 1979. Today, the two departments form one combination fire department and work side by side to accomplish our mission through our core values.
